Lucien did it right

Sometimes, drawing is nothing more than an exercise in deeper observation.
In Paris i had the wonderful opportunity to visit the exhibition dedicated to the work of one of my favourite paintings, Lucien Freud - held at the Centre Pompidou. As expected, the huge canvas seen live were breathtakingly better than any reproduction i had ever seen. The masterful brushstrokes, incredible energy and sense of composition were pure bliss. Alone, i travelled for over two hours in the exhibit space, sketchbook in hand, humbly copying some of the works.

Keeping inspiration alive is not dissimilar to physical training. Sometimes it must be done consciously, as an exercise in pointless observation and playfulness.

In Helvetica we Trust

Drawings look better if you put helvetica type on them.
Also: a quite meaningful selection of common themes for my sketchbook.
And: my cat is really called Canguro. And he meaows.

My friend Simone

I own to my friends Simone (aka Sketchthisout) and Ilaria many evenings of inspiration and friendship spent togheter doodling on each other's sketchbook in Florence's worst restaurants and seediest pubs. Our sketch thursday is becoming a sacred habit (ok, the day i wrote this post we didn't do it, and the week after too, but however). During this evenings, my usual subject for sketching is Simone, whose portraits populate my 2007 "speaking things sketchbook".

It's been a while since I took some time doing erotic drawings - the last were the ones that found their way in ego[n] 2: dotporn. Here are a couple new lazy line doodles, coloured in photoshop.

Everyone gets Lighter (John Giorno)

Life is lots of presents,
and every single day you get
a big bunch of gifts
under a sparkling pine tree
hung with countless balls of colored lights;
piles of presents wrapped in fancy paper,
the red box with the green ribbon,
and the green box with the red ribbon,
and the blue one with silver,
and the white one with gold.

It's not
what happens,
it's how you
handle it.
